Become a Volunteer
Volunteers are an intricate part of the Michigan Youth Sportsmen Competition program. Without trained and qualified volunteers, we would not have the quality State Event our participants have come to expect and deserve.
Volunteers are needed in .22 Field Rifle, 3-D Archery, Muzzleloading, Shotgun, Wildlife Identification, Orienteering, Hunter Safety Trail, Fundraising, Runner/Errands, Clerical Duties, gathering Prizes, etc. Perhaps you have skills in an area that you feel would benefit our program. We'd like to hear from you.

Must be comfortable working with archery equipment and with youth.
Must be capable of walking long distances in the woods.

Must have a working knowledge of muzzleloaders and their safe operations. You will be on your feet most of the day. Eye and Ear protection is a must.

Must be comfortable working with shotguns with various action types, and maintain a safe environment. This is more of a stand up/sit down volunteer station. Previous clay target experience is helpful, but not necessary. Eye and Ear protection is a must. The stations are usually assigned 2 volunteers to a station. We would recommend bringing a chair (or let us know if you need one). Nice opportunity for couples to work at (as long as one of you has gun knowledge).

No experience required; can easily be taught. This is mostly a sit down position, consisting of checking in participants and correcting tests.

We are looking for Hunter Education instructors and DNR officers to help with this event. Volunteers who have great knowledge of rules and regulations would be great too. We will train you to get through the event. This is a stand-up and walk-through-the-woods event. Remember to wear your hunter orange.

We just need someone to check in participants and possibly help correct tests. This is a sit-down position.

Sit down position; must be organized and willing to talk on the radio to communicate. We need 1 volunteer each for Archery, Safety trail,
Shotgun, Muzzleloading, and Rifle. (Muzzleloading and Rifle both require eye and ear protection all day).

Sit down position. Must be organized and able to multitask. This person will assist with volunteer sign-in, meal tickets, office duties, and help with the information booth.

CASL puts on the meal both days for us, but they need help as well.
This position would be on the feet most of the day. Lunch is usually served from 11am to 1:30pm both days. We will have CASL reach out to you with more details.

Meals: MYSC will provide a a light breakfast, snacks, and lunch for the day.
All volunteers are required to abide by the NRA Code of Conduct found on page 9 of the MYSC Rules & Regulations.
